Fishing for mackerel in the rain

Don’t try fishing for mackerel when it is raining, he said.

Then with a smile, it is too wet for them.

But I’m not trying to be clever. By that I mean it is the wrong sort of wet.

The mackerel, they like their water with some salt in it. So, if it is raining they will keep away as there is no salt in rain.

You could put some hooks down so deep that they touch on the bottom of the bay but they’ll not be there.

Wait for the rain to stop and some wind to pick up. And then wait some more for the tide to start coming in.

Then you may be lucky and catch a few.

Another man then joined in, it makes no difference if it’s raining or dry. You’ll be lucky to catch anything now.

But I’m telling you they are scarce this year. So you could be trying your luck for a while.

Enjoy it whilst you can.
